What monavie juice isMonaVie juice is a mix of juices from 19 fruits, and preservatives (sodium benzoate). It was made by team of scientists, leaded by Ralph Carson form "Monarch Health Science" institute. They are said to have tested 200 fruits and choose the ones with biggest influence on health to make that juice. Juice is made from blended fruit juice concentrates, açaí pulp powder and purée. Most of the juice is water - this is natural, as fruits which it is made of also contains lot of water.List of ingredients in MonaVieIngredients (from the most to least common): blend of açaí (freeze-dried powder and puree); 100% fruit juice, not from concentrate (white grape, nashi pear, acerola, purple grape, cranberry, passion fruit, apricot, prune, kiwifruit, blueberry, wolfberry, pomegranate, lychee, camu camu); fruit puree (pear, banana, bilberry)and preservatives. Active and Pulse variants have additional ingredients - d-glucosamine hydrochloride and esterified fatty acids.Amount of acaiDepending on sources of information, the amount of Acai in the juice is either unknown - and being on the top of the list of ingredients, so it is probably more than 5% - or it is 25%. (By the way: as I heard, in Brazil one can buy pure açaí’s juice for just one dollar).Sodium BenzoateSodium Benzoate (NaC6H5CO2, E211) has been linked to Parkinson’s disease and damaging cells' mitochondria. It can also form benzene (known carcinogen) when combined with vitamin C (sodium ascorbate). It is poisonous, and the concentration in drinks is limited by law (in some countries) to 0.1%. On the other hand there is less benzene in monavie than you can intake when driving a car or crossing a busy street. High amount of sugarMonavie juice contains high amount of sugar, more than orange juice, and even some unhealthy drinks like Pepsi, Coke, Sprite. This sugar comes from fruits.More about juice monavieHow to drink the juiceDrink 2 times a day, each time 30-60 ml that is equal to 1-2 fl. Oz.To see effects you need to drink it for some time, for example 3 weeks, although better results may be expected when drinking for 10-12 weeks (that would cost about $480). As far as I know there is no studies published about antioxidant capacity of Monavie. It is said that Açãí has ORAC value of 1027 - but amount of Acai in MonaVie is unknown (or it was - now it is known: 25%). There is one study by Alexander Schauss - but this is rather press release and lack many vital data (actual TBAR and antioxidant levels, data for the placebo group. Mona Vie is resposible for bringing acai to this country and has the patent on the process by which the berry retains 95% to 98% efficacy as opposed to 20% max for ALL other acai. If it isn't stamped with Acavie, it is 20%. Thus, the price difference, commensurate with the quality difference.
